Accessibility Statement for Lamplight

This is an accessibility statement from Lamplight Database Systems Limited.

Measures to support accessibility

Lamplight Database Systems Limited takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of Lamplight:

  • Include accessibility throughout our internal policies.
  • Provide continual accessibility training for our staff.
  • Assign clear accessibility goals and responsibilities.
  • Include product accessibility as a top-level objective of latest version (2025)

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Lamplight is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AAA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Additional accessibility considerations

  1. Users can select fonts including Open Dsylexia to aid comprehension.
  2. Users can select a layout that implements the British Dsylexia Association style guide.
  3. Custom colour schemes can be created (with light and dark modes).

Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

Lamplight is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Latest versions of Edge, Chrome, Firefox on Windows 11 or iOS 18.
  • We test internally with NVDA and support it financially.
  • We aim to support Dragon and Voiceover and have customers who use these.

We endeavour to support other assistive technologies but are unable to test across all that may be used.

Lamplight is not compatible with:

  • iOS before version 18, and other old browers, do not support html popover which we use extensively. We implement a polyfill for these browsers but some functionality may not work as expected.

Technical specifications

Accessibility of Lamplight relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • HTML
  • WAI-ARIA
  • CSS
  • JavaScript

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of Lamplight , there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for Lamplight:

  1. A visual captcha is still used for 'forgotten password' functionality.: The captcha shows mangled characters that have to be entered before a password reset can be initiated because We have not yet been able to replace with an accessible alternative. System administrators can reset passwords from within the system (manage operators) if required.
  2. Images uploaded by colleagues to media module: Files and images uploaded to your system by colleagues may not have text descriptions. because We can't enforce this - your internal processes will need to be updated if this is necessary. Consider internal training and processes when uploading images.
  3. Timeouts - reauthenticating without loss of data (2.2.5): Autosave is implemented to avoid this but can be turned off because System administrators may prefer to disable this functionality. Speak to your organisation about this decision..
  4. 3.1.5 Reading Level and 3.1.6 Pronunciation: Content added by colleagues to your system may not meet this requirement because Lamplight is not responsible for content added to records.
  5. Some graphical elements do not support screen readers or keyboard interaction. The information presented is always available in other accessible forms alongside the graphical element, and can be interacted with in other ways.

Assessment approach

Lamplight Database Systems Limited assessed the accessibility of Lamplight by the following approaches:

  • Self-evaluation
  • User testing carried out with customers with users with a range of accessibility requirements.
  • Automated testing using Deque Axe rulesets. This can only test limited aspects of accessibility.
  • External expert audit carried out by Hassell Inclusion. This was carried out in 2025 on the new version of Lamplight. They concluded that
"Lamplight shows excellent compliance with WCAG standards making navigation, interaction, and perception very easy for several user groups... often going above basic requirements to create both a usable and accessible experience.

Caution: there seems to be a problem loading css, or you've disabled css. Lamplight will still work, but will be harder to use. We recommend you ensure that you are using remote css files and not overwriting them with local css. It's also possible if you can read this message that there is a problem with the server: please contact us if you think this is the case.
